5 Amazing Melbourne Walks To Explore This Weekend

Embrace the outdoors this weekend and get your dose of Vitamin D on one of our top 5 nature walks in and around Melbourne.

Sherbrooke Falls Trail
Less than an hour’s drive from the CBD is Sherbrooke Falls, located within the Dandenong Ranges’ lush Sherbrooke Forest. The Sherbrooke Falls Trail will take you from Sherbrooke Road, right through the green ferns, sassafras and mountain ash, up to the falls and back again. It’s only half an hour each way, but you’ll want more time to enjoy the view and take in the fresh, forest air.

Werribee Gorge State Park
Werribee Gorge State Park is the perfect playground for the adventurous type — it’s rugged, hilly, and one of our favourite places for bushwalking and rock-climbing. For great views of the gorge, take the 10km Circuit Walk. But take note, this walk is challenging! You’ll face steep climbs and moments of cable walking along the rocks — so make sure you go prepared.

The One Thousand Steps
No need to count your steps on this one. This track was created in memory of the Kokoda Trail to allow locals to experience a tiny sense of the exhaustion felt by Australian soldiers in World War II. It is a challenging but rewarding walk as you are surrounded by the beautiful Ferntree Gully Forest. The best part of the walk is the killer view from the top!

Capital City Trail
Take the scenic route from the city along the Yarra River and give your Myki a break. Starting at Federation Square, walk along the banks of the Yarra until you arrive at the Church Street bridge. It’s an easy 3km, so if you want to add some distance turn right at Anderson Hill and walk a lap of the Tan Track or explore the incredibly beautiful Botanical Gardens along the way. When you get to your destination, head left or right at the bridge for endless options of cafes.

Bayside Coastal Trail
You can’t miss this 17km walk along the red cliff coastlines between Brighton and Beaumaris. It’s an easy stroll along the beach, which is spotted with cafes to fuel your walk along the way!
